WNC Beef cattle commission

The WNC Beef Cattle Commission strengthens the beef cattle industry in the mountains through educational programs at monthly meetings. A main focus of the commission is youth involvement through its Dairy Feeder Steer program and its support of the Junior Beef Show at the NC Mountain State Fair in September. If you would like to become a member of this commission, attend a monthly meeting or contact our office.

Junior Beef Show

The Junior Beef show occurs at the Mountain State Fair. 

Happy Hollow Award

Since 1986 this award has recognized contributions to the WNC Beef Cattle Commission, outstanding efforts to improve the production and quality of beef products, and the promotion of the beef industry. Happy Hollow Award recipients are listed below.

Beef Tour

Each year, the Beef Cattle Commission organizes a tour in coordination with the local Farm Bureau, extension agents, and producers.

Gary Stamey Junior Beef Scholarship

The Gary Stamey Junior Beef Scholarship was established in 2014 to honor the memory of Gary Stamey. The $500 scholarship is awarded to qualifying applicants who live in Western North Carolina and have participated in any 3 Junior Beef Shows prior to their application. Applications are typically released in April and due in June.
