Commissions dedicated to agriculture have been a valuable part of WNC Communities’ history. Past commissions in Horticulture, Commodities, Forestry and Horses came together to address common needs and advance agriculture as a way of life in the mountains.
These commissions laid the groundwork for many innovative ideas currently in existence in western North Carolina.
WNC Beef Cattle Commission
WNC Beef Cattle Commission strengthens the beef cattle market in the mountains through educational programs at monthly meetings. In July, members go on a beef tour to learn about production in other states. Members strive to uphold standards in beef cattle through the next generation at the Junior Beef Show at the NC Mountain State Fair in September. If you would like to become a member of this commission contact our office.
WNC Dairy Commission
WNC Dairy Commission manages a scholarship for an area youth involved in dairy to attend college and the Junior Dairy Show at the NC Mountain State Fair. The Junior Dairy Show is paramount in continuing the tradition of dairy farming with area youth. For more information on the WNC Dairy Commission, contact our office.
