Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort and Harrah’s River Valley Donate $10,000 to WNC Communities
Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel donated a total of $10,000 to WNC Communities for our 73rd Annual WNC Honors Awards in 2022. Their contribution made up a big portion of the $50,000 total in pass-through donations we distributed directly to our 64 member communities to support their rural development efforts.
The money from Harrah’s and our other sponsors helps community centers across twenty Western North Carolina counties to improve their residents’ quality of life. This year, 7,144 volunteers contributed an impressive 96,158 hours of their time to assist their communities. Their efforts include everything from serving critical needs through food pantries and providing emergency assistance for families experiencing hardship, to providing resources to help people get ahead economically such as Wi-Fi access, libraries, thrift stores, educational classes, and even rental space for small businesses. These clubs also provide a rare place in our rural areas for people to gather and connect over monthly dinners, Easter egg hunts, 4th of July celebrations, festivals, and many other creative opportunities to socialize.
We are grateful Harrah’s continues to invest in our community’s efforts to support the social, ecological, and economic health of our beloved mountain region. Thank you to Harrah’s Cherokee for your donation and for your support of our rural communities!
