Duke Energy donates $10,000 to WNC Honors Awards

WNC Communities was thrilled to receive a donation of $10,000 from Duke Energy to support our 72nd Annual WNC Honors Awards.

Duke continues to see the value in funding rural community development through this pass through donation to WNC Communities’ 66 active members.  This donation made up a significant portion of the total of $44,800 given out at the annual awards.  The money helps our community centers across Western North Carolina to provide a wide variety of services to their residents.

Examples of their efforts to improve rural quality of life include everything from keeping the lights on for their on-site thrift stores, libraries, and food pantries, to providing trash pick ups, drive through barbeques, and other creative opportunities to socialize safely and help neighbors during the pandemic.
