For 2019, WNC Communities is awarding $11,000 to these ten young women and men of Western North Carolina. They are each receiving a Journey Scholarship ranging from $500-$1500 to attend college.

Grace Owen of the Balsam Grove Community, Transylvania County

Pat Brinkley Shulimson Scholar
In addition, we are pleased to announce that Grace Owen from Balsam Grove in Transylvania County was chosen to receive the Pat Brinkley Shulimson Memorial Scholarship of $500. Grace is being awarded this scholarship for her outstanding leadership abilities.
The Journey Scholarship was established in 2002 through WNC Communities to award scholarships to high school seniors with good character, high academic achievement, and significant contributions to community service; students must be active in participating communities throughout Western North Carolina, and may access this information through their guidance counselors. As of 2019, WNC Communities has awarded $174,000 to 165 outstanding young men and women of Western North Carolina to help further their education.
